Maintenance of the Soul.

Lately it has felt especially easy to fall into the arms of a grim mindset, and a smothered memory of ambition. Some of us have had too many days when laying in bed seems worth losing your job, or even damaging friendships…

Somewhere on the list of priorities, the maintenance of your own soul keeps getting pushed down. I’ve found that it becomes particularly hard to have motivation when every day feels exactly the same as the one before, or sometimes even worse than the previous frustrating day.

At times, it feels too hard to push yourself, but it’s your responsibility to do so. Now, I’m not saying to snooze your alarm and miss a day of work, (although that sounds like pure bliss) I’m just reminding you that you’re the one who makes the list of priorities.

You have more control than you think, although I know it’s easier said than realized.

So, where do You fall on your list of it all? Personally, for a while, I didn’t even make the cut. I was unaware that I was important too, and every so often, I fall back into that state of mind.

Surprise surprise: The more it happened, the harder it was to bounce back. Simply hoping for better days had quickly lost its effect, or perhaps it was a placebo all along. Either way, hoping without action, is worthless.

Here are 5 things things that help me:

  1. Keeping a list of long term goals, even if they’re small. That way, you keep in mind the ‘big picture’.

  2. Practicing mindfulness: Learn how to ‘ground’ yourself for when your thoughts become too overwhelming.

  3. Spend at least 5 minutes outside (not on your phone).

  4. Reach out to friends you specifically find encouraging. (If they make you feel like a bother, find better friends)

  5. Surround yourself with good energy, whether that’s plants, animals, friends, or a good book.

Sleeping your life away, will not make it any easier, trust me. As I said, it’s your responsibility to take care of yourself, because at the end of the day, you’re the one who has to live with the results of your actions. If you strive for nothing, you’ll stay on the path of nowhere.

It’s time to find whatever it is that makes you excited to get out of bed in the morning. Take your time, fail forward… it will pay off.
