Fritz the Spaceman. (a short story)

Once upon a time there was a man called Fritz. He couldn’t help but linger in the past and envy the times of childhood. Of course he could only cling to the memories, for if he made them his truth once again he couldn’t survive in the world as an adult. This fact led him into a deep depression, after all, he hated every idea people provided him for the future. He didn’t want to settle down and have kids, he’d only be jealous of them.

Then one night, Fritz had a dream unlike any dream he has ever had before. It was full of hope and light. It seemed as if, somehow, he was being given a way out of his depression through the things he saw in his dream. Fritz kept the contents of his dream a secret, as if they wouldn’t come true when other people’s imagination even glanced at it. Granted it was wild, and yes people would judge him because when didn’t they? There wasn’t a point to even bring it up.

Fritz wrote down his plans and made an interpretation that he was more than confident in. He even drew some of the images that he saw… the images he didn’t want to forget on his journey.

Then the day finally came. Fritz put on his gear and began to make his way to the stars; the only place that his dreams of jolly freedom could be attained. He was giddy with excitement, enchanted by this surrealism he was experiencing. But, after traveling for quite some time, poor Fritz felt exhausted and decided to rest, so he casually kept on until he came across an open window that was hovering in the sky. Instead of questioning it, he took a seat, then before he knew it, he had settled into a colorless sleep.

When Fritz woke up, he struggled to move… something had wrapped around him, almost like a snake, but Fritz was unsure of what exactly it was. He panicked and tried to escape but he achieved nothing.

“What is this?!” he questioned the air, not expecting a reply. He examined the slithering beast and found that it was in fact a giant eyeball! Regardless of his situation, he continuously had a hard time fathoming this reality. He scanned over this eyeball’s entirety to discover that had ascended from far below him, and it was keeping him as it’s victim.

This abrasive eyeball kept him there, stuck in that window sill for so long, Fritz lost track of the time. He couldn’t carry on to discover the secrets of his dreams, yet he couldn’t even give up and go back to earth. This man was left trapped somewhere in between, and merely had to wait for death to find him.

The End.
